An Update from Jan Riggsby

Have you seen emails coming in from Jan Riggsby and wondered who that was?  Maybe you already heard that I was married in December – December 28th in Genesee to be exact.  We had chosen that date early last year and I (not so much my Alabama born husband) prayed for a white wedding.  Well, I think we prayed a little too hard.  The forecast started with flurries earlier that week, then upped to “less than an inch,” then on the wedding day it wouldn’t stop!

What I had hoped for was the ground would be covered completely in snow a couple days earlier.  That way it wouldn’t impact anyone driving to the ceremony, but still give pictures a beautiful backdrop.  Then, as the outdoor evening ceremony began, light flakes would softly fall…

OK, OK, maybe I WAS asking a little too much.

We decided that single digit temperatures and significant snow still falling would not make for a pleasant outdoor ceremony.  The main event was moved indoors, but we still had time for some outdoor pictures with a little winter wonderland feel.  We are anxiously waiting on the photographer’s pictures, but from the snapshots we’ve seen, the photos will make it all worthwhile.

After the ceremony, the fun really began – eating, drinking, and dancing the night away… well until 11 at least, we are too old to party all night.  We had such a wonderful evening celebrating with family and friends.  Before the evening was over, the snow stopped and the skies cleared.  You could now see the views from the back patio down to the city and everyone was able to get home safely.

For our honeymoon, James & I flew to Seattle, rented a Dodge Charger, and drove the Pacific Coast Highway all the way to San Diego.  What beautiful views and fun curves to drive!  We definitely found places we need to return for a longer stay, like the Oregon coast.  We meandered through the Washington rain forest, rocky coast, redwood forest, wine country, and southern California beaches.  We even made a quick stop at Levi’s Stadium so I could check out the 49ers new home and museum.  I was sure this was a good sign that they were going to pull off a SuperBowl win and add another trophy, but we all know that didn’t work out so well.

Thank you for all of those who have sent their congratulations!  We hope you enjoy some pictures from both our wedding and the PCH.
